Talk title: Considerations for the Selection of Excavation Liner Systems
Abstract: Excavations are lined for two reasons: to keep stored water in and to keep ground water out. There are several types of liners used for these purposes including slurry walls, compacted clay liners, geosynthetic liners and hybrid liner systems. The type of liner selected is driven by several factors including the purpose of the excavation, the nature of the material being excavated, the depth to and amount of groundwater present, the depth to and nature of bedrock underlying the excavation, and the availability of suitable liner materials. This presentation summarizes some of the more common factors that determine the type of liner that may be used for an excavation.
